But the guys Sui-Feng and Hitsugaya are fighting did not die

Bleach 548 "The Thin Ice" Summary:

As panic erupts in the Seireitei, Lieutenant Marechiyo ōmaeda is in distress, wondering what to do. His younger sister, Mareyo ōmaeda, comes up to him and begs him to stay, since she is scared. Marechiyo, however, says that he has to go, as it is his duty to protect his family and serve the Gotei 13. Before he can go, the Stern Ritter known as BG9 confronts him, and Marechiyo immediately recognizes him as the one who stole his captain's Bankai.

Elsewhere, Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya and Rangiku Matsumoto confront Bazz-B, who is attacking other Shinigami. Bazz-B recognizes Hitsugaya and notes who stole his Bankai, and then Hitsugaya introduces himself and his title. Bazz-B does the same and then states that they would make a good match for each other. Rangiku goes to tell the Shinigami to defend another location, while Hitsugaya takes on the Stern Ritter. However, the Shinigami who were told to retreat note how thin the ice is and are concerned about Hitsugaya's wellbeing. Bazz-B begins taunting the captain, noting that since his ice is so thin, Bazz-B can easily melt it. Rangiku returns and informs Hitsugaya of the Shinigami retreating as ordered. Hitsugaya states that he needs Rangiku's help, an idea that she finds "cute." Rangiku releases Haineko and begins their strategy, giving it a name Hitsugaya didn't agree to. Hitsugaya sets up another ice wall, which Bazz-B notes that he has trouble melting. Seeing his confusion, Hitsugaya explains the technique, calling it the Vacuum Multi Layer Ice Wall. He states how it is formed with Rangiku's help, as well as how his Shikai and Bankai function. He concludes this explanation by taunting Bazz-B, who attempts to attack in frustration. However, Hitsugaya reasserts the fact that Bazz-B can no longer break through his wall. He then forms the ice into a sword and slashes at Bazz-B.

Bleach 549 Trivia: While Rangiku hair has been consistently colored Golden Blonde in the manga, there is an orange tint to it in the anime, making it appear Strawberry Blonde instead. In addition, the shade of her eyes differs between the manga and the anime.
