Initial D Manga Gets New Anime Series

According to the latest issue of Kodansha’s Young Magazine that was released yesterday, the car-racing manga Initial D is going to get a new anime series adaption. The format of this new anime series has not been revealed yet. It could be a TV anime, OVA or something else. More details will be given on the next issue coming out on August 6, 2012.

Written and illustrated by Shuuichi Shigeno, Initial D has been serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine since 1995 and became very popular soon. Set in the late 1990s to early 2000s in Japan's Gunma Prefecture, the series follows Takumi Fujiwara, an eighteen year old boy with natural talent for driving, in his racing pursuits on the highways. The manga has been adapted into a long-running anime series, a live-action film, and had several original video anime projects, and a successful game line.
