According to Warner Brothers official, a live-action film adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's Full Metal Alchemist manga is confirmed and is scheduled to air in Japan in winter 2017. The film will be made in Italy at the beginning of June and will be completed in Japan in the second half of August.

Ryōsuke Yamada will play as Edward Elric, Tsubasa Honda(top right in image) as Winry Rockbell, and Dean Fujioka(bottom left in image) as Roy Mustang.

Other cast members include:

Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro

Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
Yo Oizumi as Shou Tucker
Jun Kunimura as Doctor Marco
Yasuko Matsuyuki (pictured bottom right in image to the right) as Lust

Fumihiko Sori is the director of the film. Sori mentioned that "I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it's a style that doesn't represent a specific race or country." He also said Alphonse will be presented in the film but not now to reveal more detail about that. He has confidence that the fans will be satisfied.

Full Metal Alchemist manga was serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine between August 2001 and June 2010. The story follows the Elric brothers Edward and Alphonse, who are searching for a philosopher's stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.

The series inspired the Full Metal Alchemist TV anime series in 2003. The sequel film, Full Metal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa, was released in 2005. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the anime series based more closely on the original manga's story, aired in 2009. The spinoff anime fime, Full Metal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, premiered in 2011.
