According to the September cover of issue of Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shounen Magazine, an anime adaptation of Aku no Hana (The Flowers of Evil) suspense manga has been green-lit for production. Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushishi, Detroit Metal City) will be the director of the new project. But no other details have been announced yet.

Aku no Hana is written and illustrated by Shuuzou Oshimi. The story follows Takao Kasuga, a student who spends his days in class sucked into the worlds of books no one else knows or cares about, like Charles Baudelaire’s The Flowers of Evil. The rest of his time is spent pining over his crush, Nanako Saeki. Things get complicated when he finds and takes her gym clothes in an impulsive after-school moment, landing him in the blackmailing crosshairs of resident class misanthrope, Sawa Nakamura. In exchange for keeping his secret, she may end up making his life a living hell.

The manga series was launched in the inaugural issue of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine in 2009, and Kodansha published the sixth book volume in June.
